The amount of people who immagrated from Russia in 1911-1920 was 921,201 people. America was the second most popular destination for immigrants behind France. During that time in Russia the October Revolution and Russian Civil War was going on, this was when a huge wave came over to the US. These people are called the White Emigres. During the Russian Civil war a man named Bolshevik ruled and brought on the war and communism. Many people (white emigres) came over ranging from demobilized soldiers to anti-Bolshevik armies, aristocrats, orthodox clergy professionals, business persons, artists, intellectuals or peasants. The top five communities in which Russians (Russians born in Russia and then came to America) have settled in are Peaceful Valley, WA which is 12.2% Russian. Next is Sharon Springs in NY with 6% and finally at top 3 West Buechel, KY with 5.7% Russian-Americans.They settled in small towns and villages in their own communities known as the shtetl. Other places they settled other than the US were southern Ukraine, Istanbul, Turkey, Poland, Czechoslovakia and other places far east. When they settled in the US the majoraty of people, from 188o-1914s worked in industrial labor force. Women usually worked sewing in the small clothing factories and sweatshops. Other Russians (the rest, not majority) worked in factories, coal mines and the slaughtering and meatpackaging plants. Russians soon made their own factories. They continued to grow more in the society and they continued to contribute much to the US.
